The Department of Colorectal Surgery at SGH is the only specialised department in Singapore for colon and rectal surgery. It provides comprehensive investigative and emergency services for the whole range of colorectal and peri-anal conditions, and all other aspects of colorectal diseases. The following services are available:

Colorectal and Anal Disease Surgery

• Full Range of surgical expertise for all colorectal and anal diseases
• Laparoscopy and laparoscopic colorectal surgery

Colorectal Surgical Oncology

• Comprehensive screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, prevention and education programme
• The department also co-ordinates the Colorectal Cancer Tumor Board to provide multi-disciplinary care

Colonoscopy

• Diagnostic and therapeutic colonscopy service for polyps and other large bowel conditions

Polyposis Registry

• A registry for hereditary colorectal cancers and other colorectal cancers

Stoma Clinic

• Trained stoma therapists to teach and care for stoma patients

Pelvic Floor Laboratory

• For difficult constipation, faecal incontience or other pelvic floor problems
• Defaecating proctograms, pelvic floor laboratory and biofeedback treatment
• Creation of "new" anus after removal or trauma to anus with dynamic graciloplasty on artificial sphincter

Transanal/Rectal Ultrasonography Laboratory

• For assessment of perianal sepsis, tumour invasion and for monitoring progress after surgery

Molecular Biology Laboratory

• The department has full capability to do research as well as to assess genetic makeup of hereditary colorectal cancers.
