Coagulation

Coagulation
Bleeding disorders arising from platelet/clotting factor deficiency, congenital or acquired, are seen and managed here. Also available is the diagnosis and management of thrombotic disorders.

Our referrals include:-

  1. Patients with arterial or venous thrombosis of deep veins/unusual sites
  2. Patients with pulmonary embolism
  3. Patients with a bleeding problem arising from coagulopathy/other defect
  4. Patients with DIVC/microangiopathy

The Anticoagulation Clinic run by the Department was set up to manage patients on long term/short term anticoagulation. The strict monitoring of the anticoagulation profile by regular monitoring of the INR helps patients keep their warfarin within the therapeutic range.

The Department also runs the National Haemophilia Registry and Haemophilia Treatment Centre which provides a Home Treatment Programme for Haemophiliacs. Our haemophiliacs are regularly followed up for their viral status and any bleeding complications Factor 8 may be given at the clinic or administered by the patients themselves at home. Prophylactic factor 8 therapy is also given to those who require operations. For those with factor 8 inhibitors, we also have a immunomodulatory programme.
