First set up in 1990, the satellite pharmacies and their strategic locations provide proximity for ward pharmacists to extend total pharmaceutical care to our inpatients and direct contact with ward doctors and nurses. Activities at the satellite pharmacies include daily review of inpatient medication records, medication supply into individualised patient drawers as well as medication counselling of discharged patients at their bedside.
The pharmacists also provide specialised patient counselling services such as the asthma, warfarin and organ transplant counselling at ward level. Therapeutic drug monitoring of medications with narrow therapeutic index is done for all patients. Monitoring of antibiotic use by the antimicrobial stewardship program pharmacists is a new initiative
The inpatient pharmacists also participate in ward rounds with physicians. This helps to foster a closer working relationship with our medical counterparts as well as provide the opportunity to know our patients’ medical condition in detail and meet their pharmaceutical needs.
Patients discharged after office hours on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays can collect their medications from the pharmacy located at Block 4 Level 1.
