Diagnostic Radiographers are health care professionals
who utilise sophisticated equipment and techniques to
image various regions of the body for the diagnosis
and assist in the treatment of diseases and injuries.
Apart from the normal X-ray equipment, they make use
of powerful, high-end computer hardware and software
such as in Computerised Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (MRI) and ultrasound, to process data and perform
multiplanar reconstruction into 3-D and cine images
to aid the specialists to evaluate and treat patients.
The nature of the work is both challenging and interesting,
combining both medical knowledge and technology to tailor
each examination to the patient's individual needs.
Radiographers work independently at a high level most
of the time. The scope is tremendous and Radiographers
are required to specialise after graduation, such as
in Ultrasonography, CT, MRI, Vascular & Interventional
Radiography, etc.
Career options include specialisation in the imaging
modalities, departmental management or venture into
the commercial sector as marketing consultants and applications
specialists.
