The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at SGH is the largest radiology department in Singapore offering a whole spectrum of high quality radiological services to patients ranging from diagnostic procedures to the highly challenging minimally invasive interventional and treatment procedures. We support the hospital’s spiralling demands for imaging services through a multi-disciplinary approach in close collaboration and consultation with patients’ clinicians to provide holistic care and enhanced management of patients.
The department has more than 40 imaging procedure suites and performs more than 440,000 radiological procedures annually. It is well-equipped with state-of-art imaging equipment, among them are:
• A Dual-Source CT (DSCT) Scanner • A 16-Slice CT Scanner • 2 units of 4-Slice Scanner • 2 units of 1.5T MRI • 1 unit of 1.0T MRI • A 3T MRI Scanner will be installed shortly • Abi-plane Vascular & Interventional Radiology System • 3 single plane Vascular & Interventional Radiology Systems • A Full-field Digital Mammography (FFDM) System with CAD & Stereotaxy • 10 units of Ultrasound Scanners, most of them are top of the range scanners • 2 units of Digital Radiography (DR) Systems
We are a fully digital and filmless department with teleradiology set up with several institutions for consultation and radiological reporting.
We have a staff complement of about 300 comprising:
• Doctors 46 • Radiographers 109 • Nurses 21 • Support Staff 127
Being a teaching hospital, our department offers advanced training in the high-end modalities through clinical attachment programmes for Radiographers. These are:
• Clinical attachment in Mammography • Clinical attachment in CT • Clinical attachment in MRI • Clinical attachment in Vascular & Interventional Radiology • Clinical attachment in Ultrasonography
Eligible candidates shall be qualified Radiographers with basic knowledge and experience in the selected modality.
The training shall be for a period of 4 weeks or longer for each imaging modality (depending on the experience of the candidates). Upon completion of the training, participants will acquire confidence and knowledge in the advanced applications of the selected modalities, selection of imaging protocols, imaging techniques, image post-processing and reconstruction, etc.
