Clinical Attachment Guidelines
Application Procedure
Interested participants or sponsoring centres should contact the Institute to apply for the course or workshop before the stipulated closing date for registration or at least 6 weeks in advance of the stipulated training dates. Where dates are ‘Open’, applicants may email or contact the Institute for updates.
Indemnity and Professional Insurance Coverage
For clinical attachment programmes, the successful applicants are required to sign a letter of indemnity. They should arrange for their own professional and personal medical/hospitalisation insurance to cover the full training period.
Training Dates/Period
The training dates may be changed without prior notice, subject to the availability of the training places and responses from participants.
Training Fee
The Institute reserves the right to determine the training fee, which are subject to change without prior notice and includes charges for tuition / supervision / preceptoring, administrative coordination and training materials where applicable. Full payment of the training fee should be made at least 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the training. The Institute reserves the right to levy a surcharge for cancellation.
Additional Expenses
The participants shall bear any incidental charges incurred such as those for meals, transport, accommodation and laundry.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the training, all trainees will receive a certificate of completion / attendance from the Institute.
1. Eligibility
a. Please see pre-requisites listed in the programme outline.
b. The trainee must return to his / her country upon completion
of training.
c. A competency level in the English language, both written and spoken as the medium of instruction
is English.
d. The trainee should note that the training programme does not imply recognition or acceptance for
registration with local professional association.
2. Application Procedure
a. Application for training at SGH must be made through the trainee (self-funded) or trainee’s
sponsoring institution (funded by institution).
b. The trainee should apply at least 6 months prior to the requested period of the clinical attachment
training.
c. The trainee may express his / her preference for a field of training in the application, but the final
decision will be with SGH-PGAHI, based on the eligibility and availability of places.
d. The application should be presented in accordance with
the application format provided.
3. Acceptance
a. Please note that all applications go through a selection process which are also subject to, amongst
other conditions:
• The ultimate decision for acceptance of the attachment rests with the Singapore General
Hospital.
• Duration and period of training are subject to mutual agreement.
• If required, pharmacists on attachment programme must be successfully registered with the
Singapore Pharmacy Board for the duration of training.
• The approval of a training visit pass application from the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration
Department.
• The passing of a medical examination to be conducted at the Singapore General Hospital and
where clinical management of patients is involved, Hepatitis B screening is required.
b. Upon in-principle acceptance by the SGH-PGAHI, a nonrefundable administrative fee of SGD$150
will be levied for observer status clinical training and SGD$200 for hands-on clinical training. This is
in addition to the training fee for each participant. The training fee together with the administrative fee
should be made payable through a cheque or draft to the Singapore General Hospital Pte Ltd.
4. Processing Time
It takes between four to six months to process a successful application, which includes the necessary applications to the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore, Immigration Authority, Singapore Pharmacy Board etc.
5. Programme Fee
a. The SGH-PGAHI reserves the right to determine the programme fee, which includes tuition fee,
supervision and programme materials where applicable. Full payment of the fee must be made prior
to the commencement of the programme, only after confirmation of acceptance of application by SGH.
b. Payment of programme fee is in Singapore Dollar. Payment in cheque should be crossed and made
payable to “Singapore General Hospital Pte Ltd” to the following address:

c. There will be no refund of fee should there be an early cessation of the training period by the trainee.
However, should there be any extension of training period, programme fee and charges that are
necessary to facilitate the extension would be charged accordingly.
6. Temporary Professional Registration, Training Visit Pass
Approval and Malpractice Insurance Coverage
a. Temporary professional registration with the Singapore Pharmacy Board (SPB) may be necessary for
hands-on pharmacists training. The applicant will be required to submit a list of educational and
professional documents as part of the registration process. The application for registration must be
accompanied by a non-refundable processing fee. The SPB will not process incomplete application.
Upon registration (which is at commencement of training) a practising certificate fee will be charged
for the issuance of the Certificate by the Board.
b. The applicant who is expected to have hands-on training is also required to have professional
malpractice insurance coverage in Singapore.
c. A Visit Pass (training) is usually required for the duration of training. For pharmacists training, this
process only begins after the applicant has been successfully registered by the SPB. The trainee is
expected to be responsible for the permit and visa fees, which are subject to change without prior
notice.
7. Cancellation Fee
a. All requests for cancellation or early termination of training must be made in writing.
b. SGH-PGAHI reserves the right to levy a cancellation fee.
8. Responsibilities of the Successful Applicant
a. The trainee is expected to involve himself / herself in the daily routine of the department.
b. The trainee will be under supervision and assessments during the period of his / her training as
required by training programme.
c. Temporary leave of absence will require approval from the Head of Department. If for some reasons,
the trainee wishes to change the placement or leave prior to completion of the training programme,
permission must be sought from the Head of Department.
d. The training programme can only maintain its value or improve, if there is feedback from the trainee.
Following the completion of the training, the trainee will submit an evaluation form to SGH-PGAHI.
e. The trainee must arrange for his / her own medical and hospitalisation insurance coverage during the
training period.
f. Where applicable, the trainee will be required to pass a medical examination inclusive of Hepatitis-B
screening and immunisation at the SGH Staff Clinic. The trainee will be responsible for the expenses
incurred.
g. SGH will require the sponsoring institution to sign a letter of indemnity and the trainee to sign a letter
of indemnity and non-disclosure.
h. Expenses such as those incurred for training materials, meals, laundry and transport will be borne by
the trainee.
9. Accommodation
Where possible, SGH-PGAHI will assist in arranging accommodation for overseas participants. This is, however, subject to advance notice given and the availability of accommodation near SGH. Alternatively, the trainee may make his / her own accommodation arrangements
