INFECTIOUS DISEASE PHARMACY RESIDENCY

Objective(s)

The Infectious Disease Pharmacy Residency is a 1-year full-time intensive clinical training programme  which aims to equip experienced inpatient pharmacists with strong competencies in the field of infectious diseases, with special emphasis & skills in the following areas:

1.       Antibiotic dose-response assessment (ADRA)

          To be able to adjust doses of antibiotics based on exposure-response relationships, and patient
  outcome/ progress.

2.     Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Principles and their Applications in the Use of Anti-Microbials, Anti-Fungals and Anti-Virals

        To be able to apply the principles in the pharmacotherapeutic management of Infectious Diseases

3.       Common bacteria, fungi & viruses

         To be able to apply the knowledge of their characteristics, identification methods and susceptibility 
         profiles In the phaemacotherapeutic management of Infectious Diaseases
.

4.       Antimicrobial resistance

        To be able to formulate a plan to apply the mechanisms of combat strategies in the prevention
         and/or reduction of antimicrobial resistance


5.       Antibotic stewardship/control policies (Antimicrobial Stewardship Program)

         To be able to set effective control policies with measurable key performance indicators, and
         execute the antimicrobial stewardship program within the institution as part of a multidisciplinary
         team


6.       Clinical and translational research in the area of Infectious Diseases

-          To develop basic research skills in infectious diseases and anti-infective

        -      To be able to apply bench-top information at bedside including pharmacology, microbiology
                and epidemiolog

7. To fulfill the Advanced Level Framework in the practice of Infectious Disease


Our Trainers

 

Dr Andrea Kwa


Dr Andrea achieved her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the Albany College of Pharmacy, New York, USA, in 2006. She also attained Added Qualifications in Infectious Diseases in Pharmacotherapy from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, USA, since 2007.
She is currently a Principle Research/ Clinical Pharmacist of the Singapore General Hospital and specializes in critical care medicine, infectious diseases and anti-infective research.

Dr Andrea is a reviewer of a number of scientific journals in Clinical Infectious Disease, Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Disease, Cochrane Review and Expert Review in Anti-infective Therapy


Ms Winnie Lee

 

Winnie is Senior Clinical Pharmacist in Inpatient Pharmacy of the Singapore General Hospital. Her specialization is in infectious disease and she is currently undertaking several research projects in this field. 

She obtained her Bachelor of Pharmacy (Upper Second Honours) from the University of London, and her Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, USA. Winnie is a recipient of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore- Shire Hospital Pharmacist of the Year 2007.


For whom / Admission Requirements

Candidates are required to have:

  • Minimum 2 years of Pharmacy experience that include a minimum of 1 year in inpatient settings, post pre-registration;
  • Strong foundation in the pharmacology of anti-infective agents ascertained through:
    • Interview cum viva
    • Oral presentation of an infection disease topic and its pharmacotherapy;
    • General Level Framework

Fee:    SGD $28,0000 per resident 
           (Inclusive of Goods & Services Tax. Fees are correct as of August 2008 and may be subjected to
            change without prior notice.)
