DEVELOPMENTAL KINESIOLOGY


Workshop Objectives

The 5-day workshop seeks to equip participants with the clinical skills for the treatment of functional pathology of the locomotor system resulting from poor early development, as well as vertebrogenic and radicular pain syndromes.


Workshop Instructors

Professor Pavel Kolar
Director of the Rehabilitation Department
Charles University Prague, Czech Republic


Professor Kolar is a physiotherapist by training. He is renowned for his work in rehabilitation, in addition to his treatment of celebrities in the world of sports, politics and entertainment, and has taught his methods in Europe, North America and Australia. Professor Kolar is currently directing an extensive research project in his department concerning developmental kinesiology and its application in early diagnosis of central nervous system disorder in newborns and infants. Developmental kinesiology is also being used in the treatment of newborns and infants with cerebral palsy.

Dr Alena Kobesova , M.D.
Rehabilitation Department

Dr. Kobesova is a neurologist by training and specializes in the treatment of patients suffering from various neurological disorders. She is also an instructor of neurological manual medicine and rehabilitation at the 2nd Medical School and the Physiotherapy School at Charles University, Prague. An emerging leader in the field of manual medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Kobesova has served as the lead instructor in manual medicine and rehabilitation courses on three continents.


About the Workshop

Much attention has been given in recent years to the development, maintenance and decline of functonal stability of the locomotor system. Professor Kolar has spawned a new manual approach to activate the intrinsic system and achieve exciting levels of improved function in a remarkably brief period.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of the basic principles of developmental kinesiology, development during the first year of life, amongst other concepts.

Participants will also acquire skills in basic techniques for reflex locomotion, in the treatment of the deep stabilising system of the spine, and self treatment.


Target Participants

This workshop is applicable to all physiotherapy professionals.


Methodology

Lectures and hands-on practical techniques will be used during the workshop to aid understanding.
