The Theatre Sterile Supplies Unit serves the multi-disciplinary surgical theatre complex and special procedure suites such as Diagnostic Radiology Department, Delivery suites, Cardio Vascular Laboratory, Emergency Department, Endoscopy Centre, Urology Centre and Ambulatory Surgery Centre.
The Department's functions include recycling, processing, inspection, assembly, packaging and sterilisation. A customised software inventory system is used to account for the vast and complex instruments. The sterilisation process uses steam, dry heat, ethylene oxide gas and plasma sterilents.
The Department is managed by a theatre-trained senior nursing officer, supported by nursing officer, registered and enrolled nurses.
