Our team of experienced nurses provides training courses that aim to equip dads and moms with the skills necessary for parenting their babies with confidence. These courses include the “Basic Resuscitation Course” that teaches parents how to handle acute emergencies at home as well as “Parenting Course” which comes in especially useful for first-time parents.
From 1 October 2013, Singapore General Hospital was accredited with the “Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI)”. All mothers upon delivery practice skin-to-skin contact (SSC) with their babies, leading to calmer babies with better temperature control and more stable vital signs. Experienced nursing staff is at hand to guide first time mothers in establishing and maintaining breastfeeding.
Light-Weight Club (LWC) Support Group
The Light Weight Club was started as a support group for parents of former very-low-birth-weight (VLBW, <1500 grams) children so that they may receive social - emotional support when parenting their children. A highlight is the LWC Annual Party organized for these ex-VLBW children. To find out more about Light-Weight Club Support Group, click here.
