A 3-dimensional model shows the 1940s landscape of the SGH campus. Take a walk down memory lane through the recollections of those who had worked and lived in SGH as they shared their memories of the campus ground, presented on a multimedia holoscreen.
A traditional symbol of Medicine, the Snake and Staff sculpture is constructed from a unique "liquid metal". Visitors can also read the full Hippocratic Oath - the exemplar for medical etiquette for centuries.
This section traces SGH's humble beginnings in 1821 when it first started as a wooden shed, highlighting the milestones and defining moments as she develops into a premier hospital.
Learn first hand account of the hospital under siege during the Japanese Occupation, and get a glimpse into the tenacity of the staff who tended to the sick and war casualties amidst the backdrop of the war.
On display are memorabilia from the medical school days at the then King Edward VII College of Medicine, including a silver scroll holder belonging to Dr G.D. Freer, the first Principal of the Medical School, known then as the Straits and Federated Malay States Government Medical School. This is probably the oldest surviving artefact of the Medical School.
See the recreated facade of the King Edward VII College of Medicine Building, the seat of medical education in Singapore. Visitors can also view interviews of ex-medical students reminiscing about their medical school days.
This section pays tribute to many of the great doctors who have worked and walked the halls of SGH. Personal personal items donated by friends and families of luminaries such as Prof G.A. Ransome and Prof Seah Cheng Siang are also showcased here. A must see is a full-size animatronic figure of the late Professor E.S. Monteiro. The life-like robotic figure moves and speaks in a manner closely resembling the late Professor, "sharing" his philosophy on the art of medicine.
